Thorong la pass is one of the major destinations/attractions of the trek. During the round Annapurna trekking, we cross thorong la peak. It is situated at an altitude of 5,416m (17,769 ft) in the Annapurna region. And is recognized as the highest pass in Nepal for trekking. It lies on the northern side of Annapurna region. How can you reach thorong la?
Thorong la pass trekking is not easy as you think to trek. It starts from the low elevation of chame. Then gradually, it goes up and up nearly 5400m till the pass cross. It’s a Multi-day adventure trekking; we walk approximately 6 to 8 hours a day and slowly gain altitude. To cover entire trekking trail of Round Annapurna with tilicho lake trek, we need a minimum of 8 days to 15 days. While heading towards Thorong La pass, you will see Buddhist monasteries, apple farms in Nepal, and beautiful small villages Chame, Pisang, Manang, srikharka, Yakkharka, and throng fedi. When we cross the pass trail is distance towards Muktinath at lower mustang. The trekking trail is amazing. You will observe the stunning 360-degree view of the beautiful mountains and landscape on the way.

Lifestyle of people in this region
Most Gurung people live in Thorong la pass region along with Sherpa people. Their lifestyle is so simple. Most people are involved in agriculture, apple farming, and yak farming. As Thorong la is near Tibet, people use yak for importing salt.
Best time for trekking in Thorong la pass
Best time for a trek to Thorong la pass is May to March and September to November. The route goes through a beautiful paddy field, a landscape with several waterfalls, and a huge hanging rock face. You will also see the subtropical forest along the trail. The Tibetan valley was so beautiful with its hand-carved houses. You can see the Tibetan flag everywhere on the trekking route.
They write in script on the flags. You will be enjoying the desert-like plateau throughout the way. The subtropical forests are full of medicinal herbs like Panchamle and pathways.
The day to pass thorongla
This is the day that is done for all other days. Today is the longest day of the trek. We cross thoroughly pass. You must start your trek early, before sunrise, Because you must pass the passes before 12 am. This is to avoid the worst situation after the 12 blow strong winds with sand and small peace of stones that can pick up later in the day. The trail itself has some cliffs and is narrow. Where sometimes you walk over the snow, which is extremely adventurous too.
