Kathmandu

Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal also the largest metropolis of Nepal. Kathmandu is situated at approximately 1400m above sea level. The metropolitian city is around 50.67 square kilometers. With the population more than 3 million inside the Kathmandu valley and 1.5 million inside the Kathmandu city. Kathmandu valley is composed of three districts. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur are inside the Kathmandu valley. Kathmandu valley is the cultural and historical hub of Nepal. People from every part of Nepal. The only international airport of Nepal Tribhuvan international airport is in Kathmandu city currently.
Almost every traveler to Kathmandu for the first time gets overwhelmed by this city. The crowded markets and roads, rickshaws running passing those crowd, lots and lots of temples and shrines, different race and culture of people living together in harmony are sure to astonish and confuse a lot of tourists. Kathmandu is able to capture a clear picture of the harmony of technology and its ancient history. Kathmandu is a tourist hub and is capable of catering to all types of tourist. Tales surrounding Kathmandu valley
According to popular legends, Kathmandu was a lake and in the middle of it was a lotus with a bright flame coming out. Once, Bodhisatta Manjushree was carrying his flaming sword that cuts down ignorance and duality and saw the bright lotus planted o top of the hill. In order to have a closer look, he cut a gorge near Chovar hill and drained out the water of the lake. This is how the Kathmandu valley was believed to have been formed and the people say that to be inside the stupa of Swyambhunath stupa.

History of Kathmandu
Archeological exploration dates cities inside Kathmandu valley back to 167 BC to 1 A.D.while the documented history of Kathmandu foundation dates back to 7th century BC. Newars are the indigenous and most populated community of Kathmandu. the first dynasty to rule the Kathmandu valley were Kirants. The Licchavi dynasty ruled Kathmandu from around (400-750 A.D.). this era is considered a golden age for arts and architecture. The Licchavi king Amshuverma introduced the book of sounds.it is the grammar for the Sanskrit language. Later king mana dev was given the throne while he was still a child. He was a great lover of art and architecture.he was the first to introduce coins in Nepal. He also built a lot of monuments all over the Kathmandu valley which still exists to this date. He not only built Hindu temples but also Stupas and Bihar. Malla dynasty ruled the Kathmandu from 12 century to late 17 century. During the reign of Malla dynasties, Nepal received more historical monuments. Malla kings-built temples and reconstructed the old ones. Many Jatras was also started during the Malla period. Later Prithivinaryan Shah of Gorkha started the unification of Nepal. He defeated all the three cities of Kathmandu valley and establish Kathmandu as a capital city of unified Nepal.

Food
Nepalese dishes are mildly flavored but are delicious. Daal (lentil soup), Bhat (rice), Tarkari (vegetable curry) and Achar (pickle) is the staple dish of Nepalese people. While you are in Kathmandu you can try Newari dishes, Mo: mo (Nepalese dumplings), Sel roti (ring-shaped rice bread), Thukpa (soup noodles), Juju Dhau (literally means king yogurt), Sekuwa (spicy kababs). Almost all Nepalese people drink tea. You will encounter a variety of tea while traveling. The coffee culture is catching on in Kathmandu so you will find a good cup of hot brewed coffee easily. If you get the chance, try out the home-brewed alcohol made by the Newar family. There are different restaurants that specialize in cuisine from all over the world.

Weather
The weather of Kathmandu is pleasant in spring and autumn. It is not too hot or cold. It rains sometimes making the temperature cooler. It gets a little bit hot in summer but not that hot in comparison to the Terai region of Nepal. Kathmandu gets pretty chilly in winter. The morning almost always gets misty in the morning. But it almost never snows in Kathmandu.
